A Shrine 100 News EXCLUSIVE: Why sternfannetwork was shut down

As a reader of this blog, you know that the struggling Stern fan website, sternfannetwork was unexpectedly turned off for several hours Friday....but why?

No real explanation has been given so far by Jeff Hey, owner of the site.

Jeff Hey first said that an Opie and Anthony fan working at the location of his server was responsible. When the board returned, the man's name, picture, email addresses, etc., were posted on SFN, and the SFN members were encouraged to seek revenge. Cries of, "Lets get this guy fired.", were heard throughout Sterndom. A short time later, the board was turned off again. When the board returned, Jeff Hey called off the attack and said that the guy had nothing to do with it,afterall. He said that he had received a notice a day before that the board was going to be turned off, and that the board was turned off for legitimate reasons...........but what were those legitimate reasons.

Was it a planned maintence shutdown.....and if so, why didn't Jeff Hey alert his members to the downtime? Why weren't the members notified, no matter what the reason? Did Jeff Hey not read his mail?

Did the shutdown have anything to do with personal information being posted at the site, or all the slanderous comments, or death threats made against Chaunce Hayden?

Well, no matter what fairy tales Jeff Hey conjures up this time, Shrine 100 News has learned that sternfannetwork was indeed turned off because of "certain content" on the board. The following is an email that was received from the CEO of Burst.net, the server for sternfannetwork at 10:23 A.M. Saturday morning.

I am aware of all details regarding the issue, and am dealing with this matter directly with the SFN site owner.I am not at liberty to disclose any details regarding the matter, however,I can assure you the site was not "hacked".I can also state that the site being down is not directly related to that threat, but due to other issues regarding certain content.I would expect the content to be available again shortly today, as re-activation is in the hands of the site owner for some time now.

Is your personal information being posted at SFN, are you being threatened? Did you get sent a trojan virus by the SFN staff?

Report any problems you have to abuse@burst.net. The people at this NEW SFN server apparently care about what goes on at SFN. The days of unchecked abuse at SFN may finally be coming to an end.

(update: Jeff Hey explains why he didn't check his email.)

If I hadn't been searching the net all morning trying to figure out who this guy was, I may have seen the email which Burst sent me the afternoon before letting me know that we'd be down at noon Friday. You have to admit that the way he worded it, it sure looked like he was saying he was knocking us offline. It caused mass confusion with us and with them.
