The Howard Stern football picks by Mike Rose
Who’s picks are the smartest this week:
1. Artie (Seattle – 2) – Seattle on the road over an overrated St Louis Rams team is a gimme. Smart pick, because St. Louis isn’t anywhere as near good as their record reflects. My Prediction: Seattle 28 Rams 17
2. (Tie) Bigfoot Mark and E. Elliott Offen (NY Jets -2) – Another decent pick, the Jets are coming off a humiliating performance against Jax and need to get their home fans fired up. The only problem with the Dolphins/Jets Rivalry, is that it doesn’t matter what the records are, both of these teams hate each other and I have seen games where the Jets come into this game 1-6 and blow the Dolphins and Vice Versa. Bottom line, it’s a decent pick, but there are better ones out there, my prediction: NY Jets 21 Miami 14
3. Crazy Alice (Denver – 16) – I said it last week and I will say it again, double digit spreads in the NFL are untouchable. 16 points is too many to give up, especially with Jake Plummer at the helm for Denver. Alice is Crazy… My Prediction: Denver 21 Oakland 13
I picked the Eagles laying 3 on the road against the New Orleans Saints, because the Saints are not for real. My Prediction: Eagles 28 Saints 17

Mike Rose’s Top 10 NFL Reach-Around Jones

J-E-T-S Suck Suck Suck
Random Ramblings..
Predictability was the name of the game last weekend for my beloved Dolphins, and while C-Pep didn’t play, Joey H. supplied me with the same kind of heartache and bile (0TD, 2 INT) so I wouldn’t have any separation anxiety, I appreciate that Nickles. I’m not going to say that we had a chance to win this game, because we didn’t, but the fins definitely had a shot to score a couple of times and didn’t capitalize, because of what appears to me to be a crappy offensive gameplan, without any flexibility to improvise, given the situation. It seems like Malarkey lines up a list of plays and they roll through them, regardless of the situation, with nary an audible to be found….Another fins item I can’t let idly go by is the fact that Nickles is having problems dealing with the media down here. Hey Bucko, this ain’t Baton Rouge, people are going to question your decisions, man up and accept it, answer the questions and call it a day. My prediction for Sunday? J-E-T-S 21 Miami 14, another loss for my peeps…..Can the Redskins be on a crazier roller coaster ride? They come out and play tough against Jax’s solid defense, but fizzle against the Giants mediocre defense, what’s up with that? I mean 164 net yards is just pathetic, it’s time for Coach Gibbs to give Jason Campbell a shot before the season is ruined….The Browns played like crap, 1 week after looking sharp, I guess the Panthers are putting it back together. Maybe they’ll make an appearance in my reach around jones again before the end of the season. Enough of my yappin….Let’s Boogie!!!
1. Da Bears – I’m usually a “To be a man, you have to beat the man” kind of guy, but Da Bears flat out annihilated the Bills last weekend and the Colts barely squeaked by the incredibly crappy Tennessee squad. I made the call, if you disagree, I’m sorry, but Da Bears are just that good. They have the Cardinals this week, which may be a test for their defensive secondary, but the Bears should have no problems stopping Edge James or putting Matt Leinart on his can. I predict another big win for Da Bears.
2. Indianapolis Colts – The Colts are good, but they had a tepid outing versus an awful Titans squad, that combined with a bye this week knocks them down one to #2. Aww…pitty poo. It is pathetic though, when you can only manage to put up 14 points on that team. Unbelievable, considering that the Colts were an 18 ½ point favorite ( I think any number about 14 is ridiculous in the NFL).
3. Philadelphia Eagles –That game between the Cowboys and the Eagles was the game of the week. Watching Bledsoe snatch defeat from the jaws of victory with that interception was sooo Bledsoe like. Donavan McNabb has been playing great this year and has been healthy, which is a good omen for the Iggles, but a premier wideout has yet to stand up for them, with Baskett and Brown having big games last week, but no real consistency from that spot. My other observation on this team is that they need to stop using Westbrook so much or he’s going to break down. The Iggles are at the Saints this weekend, so we will find out if the Saints are for real, or not.
4. Denver Broncos – The Broncos beat a good Baltimore Ravens team in a very boring game that ended with Plummer having a stellar 109 Yds Passing. If they didn’t have a great running game, the Broncos would be screwed…no doubt about it. But they played very well and managed to score a touchdown and 2 field goals on the tough Baltimore D. This week they play the ridiculously bad Oakland Raiders, so expect Jake to really lay it on thick an put up a fat 130 yds passing. Just kidding, they will win this week by at least 10. Mark it down.
5. Baltimore Ravens – Well, they lost to a good Denver team last weekend, but their offense really sputtered. They managed to gain 257 net yards, but were only able to score one field goal. McNair did not have a good game, he was sacked 2 times and threw 3 interceptions, those are really Favretastic numbers and he better get his act together, if the Ravens are going anywhere this year…man, I have been waiting all season to use the word Favretastic.
6. San Diego Chargers- Are the Bolts that good, or are the Steelers that bad? I really think it’s a combination of the 2. Phil Rivers looked good and put up some decent numbers (244yds, 2TD, 1INT) and actually seemed to be comfortable under the center, despite being sacked 4 times by the Steelers’ D. The Bolts have a few nice weapons and could really do damage in the playoffs if he keeps his head screwed on straight. To kind of comment a little on the Steelers, I don’t know what’s going on there with Roethlisberger, but something is definitely wrong. Maybe he rushed back too fast from the motorcycle accident. Maybe Cowher is pulling a “Kordell” on him, let’s see if the talk of him being gay shows up in the media…Back on topic, the Chargers have the San Fran-sissy-co 49ers this week, so I anticipate the inevitable win for them.
7. New England Patriots – The Patriots performed exactly as I predicted and looked okay against my awful Miami Dolphins, I still don’t think they are that good with the exception of their QB and their defensive line, however playing in the crappy AFC East is going to pad their record and at least put them in the playoffs. They are off this week, so I really have no other comments other than I hate them.
8. Cincinnati Bengals - The Bengals were off last week and have to go into Tampa this week and play the disappointing Bucs, should be an easy win for them.
9. Seattle Seahawks – They were off last week as well, but I moved them up in the rankings by virtue of the fact that they get to play a very overrated Rams team this week. I expect the Seahawks to bury the Rams and their easy schedule. I have been wrong in the past, but the Rams defense is 22nd in the league. Seattle should have it made in the shade.
10. New Orleans Saints – I’m still not a believer, but they are 4-1. That stands for something. That being said, they have Philly this week and we will see if they are for real or not. More than likely not, but they’re offense is ranked 7th in the league and their defense is 13th. So I will give them another chance in this spot.
